Pursuing Innovation

Fishers, Indiana

In fall of 2016, a series of banners was installed on The Edge building at 116th and Lantern Road in Fishers, Indiana. The work, entitled “Pursuing Innovation,” is a celebration of the entrepreneurial spirit in Fishers. The series of abstract portraits explores the idea of entrepreneurship, and challenges us to rethink what images come to mind when we think of an entrepreneur.

Through a public process with the City of Fishers, entrepreneurs who live or work in Fishers were selected to be a part of the series. The individuals chosen have a variety of backgrounds and work in a variety of different fields. Despite their differences, what they all have in common is their pursuit of innovation in their chosen fields.

Through the ambiguity of the abstract portraiture, the work aims to expand the definition of who can be an entrepreneur.

“At the entrance to the Nickel Plate District, the artwork welcomes visitors and residents to the heart of downtown Fishers and celebrates what makes our community so special. We are a vibrant city with big ideas and the innovation-driven culture to turn those ideas into reality. This art installation captures that spirit and culture and puts it on display for the world. I couldn’t be more excited to unveil this public art today.”
